I don't think so; it turns out you're off by almost 4 cents on your average annual cost! See: http://aecn.timehorse.com/2011/02/dominion-virginia-power-ev-rates.html#wharearemy4cents ; you'd actually be paying 9.133 cents per kWh under your current 2011 rate plan, averaged out annually. Still a very nice rate, but not as rosy as you once thought, eh?TimeHorsehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17947373471247950640noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8265250169439156014.post-48056011701234211432010-06-22T07:29:44.675-04:002010-06-22T07:29:44.675-04:00Thanks, me! I checked the Dominion VA Power (NYSE...Thanks, me! I checked the Dominion VA Power (NYSE:D) pay scale (Schedule 1) and found the rate per kWh was only 7.033 cents per kWh above 800 kWh in the summer, the worst-possible rate (there is no night / day rate with DOM). Now, in VA, in the summer, it gets hot and I drive a lot of highway, which turns out to be a 67 mi commute (about 110 km). So, if I'm lucky, if the LEAF's range is reduced by 30% or less by speed and A/C, I could still get about 107 mpg-equivalent at the current fuel rate ($2.589)! And compared to a 50 mpg car, the LEAF would only cost me $1.206 per gallon of petrol equivalent, which is unlikely to be available any time soon!<br /><br />Of course, all this depends on what's the real-world range of the LEAF; if it's less than 70 mi I'm pretty well done for! But at least I can charge in the late afternoon without a daytime penalty.<br /><br />But also, me, I should keep in mind that much of that cheap electricity is coming from nasty Coal and if I really want to keep VA green, I should look at paying a little more to get more of my power from Green Technologies...TimeHorsehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17947373471247950640noreply@blogger.com
